Artist Statement

Adaptation and connection are strong themes in my work as they have been overwhelmingly present in my life. The emotions that are tied to these types of changes are so complex and interesting to explore. I enjoy relating these themes to animals and nature. Many of my favorite artists, Beatrix Potter, Richard Scarry, Walton Ford, and Don Bluth, all used animals in their works to represent different aspects of an idea or to show character traits or create a compelling narrative. Some of my other favorite artists include Bob Montana, Jhonen Vasquez, Alphonse Mucha, and Alan Ituriel. Experimenting with texture, line, and color is crucial to my work. These elements can convey so many emotions and meanings. Non-human creatures are an interesting way of portraying some of the most human parts of ourselves, our emotions.
