I just finished the 50 drawings for brainstorming this semester, and my usual themes of animals and the human figure were very prevalent. I used ink pens, acrylic gouache, colored pencils, watercolors, and graphite pencils. During critique, a lot of my classmates seemed to enjoy my watercolor pieces, so I may utilize more watercolor washes in the background of my pieces. I still think that acrylic gouache and colored pencils work very well for my figures. I also am considering more use of outlines in my work, perhaps with ink. One drawing that a lot of my classmates seemed to enjoy was a portrait I made in watercolor. I honestly did not spend a lot of time on that one, and sort of considered it just an exercise, but I’m glad that others enjoyed it! One of my favorite ones in this series was the slasher piece. It’s a quick one, but as I was looking at my previous work, I thought “These bird heads look a lot like a weird mask that a slasher would wear!” So I decided to try it out, and I think it works a little too well. I also enjoyed making the blue rat. It was fun to just mess around with the acrylic gouache.
